Safety
Jumbo Inflatables Ltd are committed to the safest inflatables that meet the most rigorous industry safety standards. We use the very best materials and with a dedicated in-house design team we can make sure all our inflatables conform to all current UK and EU requirements.
As a manufacturer it is important that we make products to high standards to ensure customer safety. Coupled with 30 years’ experience our inflatables are made in the UK using the best quality materials.
- UK manufactured double sided 610gsm PVC polyester cloth, which is tough and flexible, fire retardant and tested against water penetration.
- Colour fast double twist bonded nylon sewing thread for extra strength. Each seam is sewn using a double stitch with the process repeated at the high-tension points.
- Webbing is added to highly stressed areas to provide the inflatable with extra strength particularly on the bed seams
- Strong PVC roof materials which are fully sewn in to meet containment requirements
- Strong anchor points using steel fixings with covered PVC triangle to spread the load
- PVC wear panels on high traffic areas such as doorways, toys and tops of slides. This allows these areas to be replaced easily
- 1 year PIPA test/certificate to show the inflatable conforms to recognised standards
PIPA
PIPA (The Professional Inflatables Play Association) is an inspection scheme set up by the inflatable play industry to ensure that inflatable play equipment conforms to recognised safety standards. The scheme is supported by the HSE.
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, manufacturers, hirers, operators and users have a responsibility to ensure the safe use of the equipment and therefore to ensure minimum risk. The risk is more easily managed if the equipment conforms to accepted standards and has been regularly inspected. The PIPA scheme provides a means for everyone to know that the equipment is safe through annual inspections carried out by a competent person who is registered with PIPA.
BS EN 14960 is the European standard for design, manufacture and testing of inflatable play equipment. This is the standard to which inflatable play equipment is inspected through the PIPA scheme. Following this standard is regarded as “best practice” and would usually be sufficient to demonstrate compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Click here for The Facts.
How the scheme works?
Each piece of conforming equipment is tagged with a unique number which is attached to the inflatable throughout its life. This tag is linked to an online database that can be accessed by scanning a unique QR code located on any PIPA tested inflatable. The inflatables initial test and any additional annual tests can be viewed.
All users, operators and members of the public can access this database at www.pipa.org.uk. Not all inflatable equipment are covered by the PIPA scheme including inflatables classified as toys and inflatables used in pools. Click here to find out what is and isn’t currently covered.
PIPA have also advised on safe hiring practices and this can be viewed through the Bounce Safe Leaflet
They also provide a series of useful information sheets that can be viewed here https://www.pipa.org.uk/pages/information-sheets
HSE
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) also provides guidance on simple precautions to help avoid any serious incidents. The health and safety law applies to the supply, hire and use of inflatables for commercial purposes. It does not apply to private, domestic buyers and users. The guidance applies to inflatable equipment that are covered by BS EN 14960 and that can be used both outside and inside.
HSE supports two industry inspection schemes for inflatables run by PIPA and ADIPS. Most play inflatables will therefore display either a PIPA tag or ADIPS declaration of compliance to show they comply with BS EN 14960.
